Two Pennsylvania Firms were Recognized by the AIA’s Small Project Practitioners Knowledge Community for Their “Small Gesture, Big Impact” Proving Good Things Come in Small Packages!
GBBN Architects Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Studio Hive illustrates how overall square footage isn’t necessarily a determining measure of design quality. The American Institute of Architects Jury commented, “A graceful solution to a ubiquitous problem. The project is especially innovative in how it quantified the positive effects of design, which could benefit a myriad of future projects.”
More congratulations are in order for Lehigh University Professor Nik Nikolov of Nikolov Architecture and Design. Professor Nikolov was the project architect on the award winning Weihnacht Craft Huts in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The Jury commented, “While alluding to the form and genre of the typical shack at a traditional German Christmas market, the Weihnacht Huts present a contemporary, cost-effective, and clever solution to the need to provide shelter, identity, and flexibility, within a standardized design.”
