Where We Are Headed

Welcome to 2018!

I am extremely excited to usher in the second half of the 2017-2018 legislative session. In 2017, AIA Pennsylvania saw some significant wins with the passage of Act 36 of 2017, the appointment of three AIA architects to Labor and Industry’s Review and Advisory Council, and the passage of Act 40 of 2017. These successes are a direct result of the great work of our members and all of their grassroots efforts.

There is much more in store for 2018. This year we find ourselves in a major election year; half of the Senate seats, the entire House of Representatives, and the Governor’s office are up for grabs. As always in an election year, this is sure to sway the passage of legislation.

AIA Pennsylvania will be focusing our efforts on issues that will impact architects and architectural practice in the Commonwealth. In 2018, we will continue to fight for Mandatory Continuing Education for all architects, the Review and Advisory Council to adopt the 2015 ICC suite of codes, education funding for School Construction, and much more. We will also continue to fight against the encroachment on the practice of architecture by many other industries.

AIA Pennsylvania is here to protect you, your practice, and the health, safety, and welfare of all building occupants in our Commonwealth. We cannot do it alone, we need you! Please consider donating your time to our Pennsylvania Legislative Action Committee, Government Affairs Committee or Issue based subcommittees that assist us with coming up with our policies and position statements. Also please consider a personal monetary donation to the PA Architects PAC which will continue to strengthen our seat at the table.

If you have legislative concerns that you think we should be tracking, please send me an email at amahrouki@aiapa.org or call me at 717-236-4055 ext. 105 and we will add them to our list.

Let’s make 2018 the year of the architects by turning all of our members into Architect’s Advocates!

Here’s to you,

Amal
