Announcing the 2021 AIA Pennsylvania President, Board, and Leadership

The Pennsylvania chapter of the American Institute of Architects, AIA Pennsylvania, is proud to announce its 2021 Board of Directors and governing Executive Committee members led by 2021 AIA Pennsylvania President, Jeffrey Pastva, AIA, CPHC, NCARB.

“As we head into 2021, I remain optimistic because architects are problem solvers and we’re citizens in this country too,” said Pastva. “We [architects] have an influence on the ways human beings interact spatially — be it the design of spaces that allow for social distancing in the current or future pandemic or spaces that perpetuate inequality — and training that mediates conflicting viewpoints. We have it in our power to find solutions to these problems and the others that will undoubtedly arise in the coming years. This is not a year to sit on the sidelines — it’s a time to provide service to your fellow humans and engage with the communities that you are a part of. Let’s respond to the challenges of 2020 by making 2021 the year of the citizen architect.”

Mr. Pastva is a Senior Project Architect and Certified Passive House Consultant (CPHC) with Bright Common, a Philadelphia-based firm that focuses on high-concept and low carbon design. He has extensive experience designing housing, including affordable, student, and senior typologies for both single and multi-family projects.

Jeff has served in volunteer roles at all levels of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), having held leadership positions at the local Philadelphia, state, and national levels. In 2018, Jeff was named an AIA Blueprint for Better Communities Champion. He was integral in facilitating the first AIA Pennsylvania Strategic Council initiative placing architects at the forefront of the revitalization of a small downtown business district.

In addition to his professional service, Jeff has volunteered for the Community Design Collaborative, his neighborhood RCO (SOSNA), and conducted professional portfolio seminars for students at Syracuse, NJIT, Drexel, and Temple. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Syracuse University and has been a licensed Architect in Pennsylvania since 2011.

Pastva will virtually accept the customary gavel officially accepting presidential duties from outgoing 2020 President, Marc Mondor, at the first AIA Pennsylvania board meeting of 2021.
