The 2021 recipients of the AIA Tri-State Design Awards have been honored with a virtual production showcase that debuted in early December. The awards program, celebrating regional excellence in design and impact on the built environment, is held biennially as part of the 2021 AIA Tri-State Conference hosted by three state chapters of the American Institute of Architects (AIA): AIA New Jersey, AIA New York State, and AIA Pennsylvania.
Three accomplished jurors, architects from across the country gathered virtually to review 164 submissions: Sarah Broughton, AIA – Principal with Rowland and Broughton, Aspen, Colorado; Stephen Panzarino, AIA – Regional Director of Architecture with AECOM, Tampa, Florida; and Francisco Javier Rodríguez-Suárez, FAIA – Director of the University of Illinois School of Architecture in Chicago and Principal of the San-Juan based, RSVP Architects. Through multiple rounds of review and deliberation, the jurors narrowed the entries down to 68 finalists to reach a final consensus on this year’s 34 award-winning projects by 28 firms.
Six Pennsylvania firms received honors for nine projects – Ballinger, Erdy McHenry Architecture, EwingCole, ISA, KieranTimberlake, and Moto Designshop.
