Michael Johns Appointed to the State Architects Licensure Board

Michael Johns, FAIA, NOMA, LEED AP will officially join the Pennsylvania State Architects Licensure Board during the second board meeting of 2022 set for early March.

Michael established his firm Mdesigns + MWJ Consulting LLC in 2007 as a Philadelphia-based Architecture, Planning and Development consulting firm specializing in assisting Public and Private sector clients in residential, retail and commercial development related activities. Known for his work as a public architect with the Philadelphia Housing Authority, Michael has played a major role in cultivating and revitalizing the Philadelphia public housing initiative. Through the use of public advocacy, innovative design, economic impact, national and even international influence, Michael has proven that a public housing authority can provide safe, affordable, quality housing that also revitalizes urban environments and communities.

Johns, a graduate of Temple University School of Architecture, is also a founding member and a past president of the Philadelphia chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architects (PhilaNOMA). He has served as a commissioner on Philadelphia’s City Zoning Code Reform Commission where he helped rewrite and modernize the antiquated code. He was an inaugural member and still sits on Philadelphia’s Civic Design Review Committee.

The State Architects Licensure Board serves to protect the health, safety and property of the people of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania through the regulation of the practice and licensure of the architectural profession. Among its other functions, the Board promulgates standards of professional conduct and establishes rules and regulations for the examination of licensure applicants.

AIA Pennsylvania advocates for and supports the appointments of members that uphold the highest standards of practice and professional conduct as demonstrated through experience and leadership.

Michael joins the following AIA Pennsylvania members currently serving on the State Architects Licensure Board including the reappointment of board member Mary McClenaghan, AIA, NCARB, Founding Principal of 39° North Architects, LLC.
