AC472 & AC478 Accreditations for Improving Quality and Success in Metal Building Design and Construction

This program provides architects with an overview of how the AC472 and AC478 accreditations for metal building design, fabrication and construction can be used to complement the building process. An in depth look at what is included in the accreditation process and why it is important for the safety and quality of the building. This program will outline why accreditation is important and can benefit the architect.

Meet the Presenters
Laura Uraine, Customer Success Specialist at International Accreditation Service (IAS)
In this role she creates and formats content for the IAS website and publications, coordinates and hosts onsite and virtual company events and trainings, and collaborates with editors and graphic artists on various creative projects. Laura has a background in administration support, customer service, and teaching. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Radio/TV/Film from Cal State University, Fullerton.
Walter Mershon, P.E., self-employed Registered Professional Engineer (Civil Engineering)
currently active in 5 states and previously held licensure (now inactive active status) in 24 states while working for two firms within the Metal Building Industry over a 27-year span. During his tenure with these companies, he held positions beginning as a Design Engineer leading to Project Engineering Manager, Director of Engineering, Vice-President of Engineering and Technical Services, and Director of Engineering Council of Excellence (Quality). He has earned OSHA 10 Certification and is a Certified Auditor in the Quality Program of Texas (Baldridge). He began performing Assessments as a contract Technical Assessor with IAS in the AC472 (Inspection Program for Manufacturers of Metal Building Systems) program in 2015 and in the AC478 (Inspection Practices of Metal Building Assemblers) program in 2018. Today he performs approximately 75 Assessments a year between the two programs in addition to developing and providing training sessions in each program.
Art Hance, Founder and President of Hance Construction, Inc. headquartered in Warren County, New Jersey
Hance Construction, a Butler Career Builder, was founded in 2000 and provides material erected, turnkey construction management and general contracting services to the Industrial, Commercial and Cannabis markets. One of the firm’s noteworthy projects included building the pre- engineered Butler structure for the New York Giants indoor practice facility. Art recently completed a term as President of the Metal Building Contractors and Erectors Association where he was instrumental in driving the creation of the nation’s first accreditation program for metal building contractors, IAS AC-478. Hance Construction is one of 16 contractors nationally to have achieved accreditation under this program
