AIS (Architecture in Schools)

January 24, 2018 @ 8:00 am - 12:00 pm

The AIS (Architecture in Schools) program is in need of volunteers for their current session at Wyoming Seminary in Kingston!

9th Grade STEM students there are designing lounge-like spaces in existing corridors and lobbies on their campus. This real-world project has potential to be built by Wyoming Seminary in the future. It gives the students hands-on experience mimicking the design process and incorporating multiple architecture related career fields. In addition to learning how to design a project, the students will interview clients, do site analysis and research, perform a case study, engineer HVAC and lighting, and do a cost estimate of their work before presenting their project before a panel of jurors made up of Sem faculty (their client) and professionals within the field of architecture. They will also be reading articles about architecture and they will be teaching themselves to use Google SketchUp to convey their ideas.

Please see the lesson plans (Week 3, Week 4) with details about the lessons, as well as the flyer above with information about the class and photos from previous sessions at Wyoming Seminary.

For more information or to become a volunteer, please contact Justine Tarrant at jtarrant@hc-architects.com.
