Change is Coming | AIA PA Update on UCC & Accessibility Code Changes

Join AIA Pennsylvania as we hear from Matthew Kegg, Director of the Bureau of Occupational and Industrial Safety with L&I, James Mehaffey, AIA, AIA PA Building Codes Subcommittee Chair, and Chuck Parker, AIA, Building Codes Subcommittee member on the changes coming to building codes in Pennsylvania. This presentation will give a brief overview of the implementation dates and grace periods for the UCC and Chapter 11 Accessibility code changes. The majority of the presentation will focus on many of the revisions to ICC/ANSI A117.1-2009 included in ICC/ANSI A117.1-2017. This document, Accessible and Usable Buildings, and Facilities is the accessibility standard referenced by the ICC suite of codes and is, therefore, enforceable by Authorities Having Jurisdiction. The accessibility compliance requirements for a building can be found in the International Building Code or International Existing Building Code. The way in which one meets those requirements can be found in ICC/ANSI A117.1. In other words, the IBC/IEBC tells one ‘where’, ICC/ANSI A117.1 tells one ‘how’.
