Housing for People and Climate
In the face of the twin pressures of population growth and the intensifying climate crisis, traditional approaches to urban housing are no longer adequate. Offering fresh solutions, this Record on the Road will explore multiunit projects at various scales—for Philadelphia, New York, and beyond—that address affordability, constructability, and sustainability.
Learning Objectives:
1). Define the term net-zero energy and explain how it can be achieved in dense urban environments.
2). Discuss strategies for reducing both operational energy and embodied carbon in multifamily housing projects.
3). Explain the principles of Passive House and describe how these concepts can help create buildings with reduced environmental footprints while promoting occupant comfort and well-being.
4). Discuss the design, construction, and budget challenges presented by ultra-energy-efficient multifamily housing.
