Top 10 Construction Litigation Issues
May 12, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Disputes can arise at any stage of the construction process, from commitments at a project’s start to fundamental disputes over performance after its completion. This session will explore the most common issues that are alleged in construction defect cases. The presentation will guide the attendees through construction basics from the roof to the foundation. The most common defects in each area will be discussed, along with building code requirements, accepted industry standards, consequences and/or damages and repair recommendations.
In this session, Forensic Engineer Derek Hodgin, from Construction Science & Engineering Inc, will walk through a deep-dive review of correctly interpreting prescriptive and performance-based building code requirements and industry standards for the 10 most common construction defects, discriminately compare as-built conditions with industry standards and building code requirements, and accurately evaluate the adequacy of construction details to determine the need for corrective repairs.
