Muhlenberg Township and Muhlenberg Greene Architects invite the public to a commemorative event, “Muhlenberg Township – The Family Behind the Name,” on Thursday, September 25, 2025, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Muhlenberg Township Building, Public Meeting Room.
This date is particularly meaningful—it marks the birthday of Frederick Augustus Muhlenberg, FAIA
(1887–1980), the esteemed architect, military officer, statesman, and founder of the firm that would evolve into today’s MG Architects.
The evening will feature a presentation by Bradley Smith, Adjunct Professor of History at Alvernia University and Curator of the Ephrata Cloister. He will recount the Muhlenberg family’s enduring influence—from settling in Pennsylvania in 1742 through naming the township, to the architectural legacy left by Frederick A. Muhlenberg himself.

Attendees are invited to view a pop-up exhibit showcasing Frederick Muhlenberg’s original hand-drawn renderings—rare glimpses into local architectural history that remain deeply tied to Berks County’s identity.
Limited-edition notecard sets featuring archival images will be available for $20, with proceeds benefiting the Berks History Center.
“Frederick Muhlenberg’s work shaped the architectural fabric of Berks County,” said Jim Sarro, AIA, Principal of Muhlenberg Greene Architects. “This event gives residents an opportunity to connect with the history of our region, celebrate an extraordinary legacy, and see original sketches that still inspire our design practice today.”
This program is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided.
