Please join the AIA Small Firm Exchange (SFx) for an exclusive panel discussion designed to shed light on the AIA Fellowship process and what it means for small firm practitioners. The AIA Fellowship (FAIA) represents the highest honor within the American Institute of Architects, recognizing architects who have made significant and lasting contributions to the profession and society.

As the 2026 Fellowship cycle comes to a close and the 2027 cycle begins, understanding the criteria and the submission process is crucial for those aspiring to this prestigious designation. Small firm practitioners have unique challenges in achieving this recognition and the SFx wants to help inspire interest, answer questions, and illustrate how challenges can be overcome. Hear from the Chancellor of the AIA College of Fellows, and Fellows who operate their own small firms on what it takes, and how to craft a successful application. See the structure of a fellowship application and hear key dos and don’ts of the process, along with valuable insider tips to help navigate the process more effectively.

Panelists

Kate Schwennsen, FAIA – Chancellor of the AIA College of Fellows

Greg Ibanez FAIA – former regional rep to AIA College of Fellows

Janet Bloomberg, FAIA – former chair of the AIA Small Firm Exchange and on the Fellowship Committee of AIA|DC
