AE Works, an award-winning Pittsburgh-headquartered building design and consulting firm, welcomes former Pittsburgh Mayor William (Bill) Peduto, who is joining the company as a Strategic Advisor.

In this role, Peduto will support AE Works’ commitment to growing in the Pittsburgh region by advising on strategy across higher education, healthcare, commercial, and public-sector work. He will help strengthen AE Works’ ability to support clients in planning and delivering complex building and infrastructure programs with long-term regional impact.

“Bill has spent decades focused on what it takes for regions to thrive and how infrastructure and economic development work together to strengthen communities,” said Michael Cherock, Founder and CEO of AE Works. “As we grow regionally, Bill’s perspective will help us deliver even more value to clients planning and delivering complex building projects that shape the future.”

Peduto is deeply committed to Pittsburgh and to the role that well-executed building and infrastructure projects play in strengthening the region. As Mayor from 2014 to 2022, Peduto helped drive more than $10 billion in new investment into Pittsburgh, bringing a unique perspective on how regions grow and how high-impact projects can strengthen communities over the long term.

“AE Works has consistently taken a values-driven, forward-looking approach to building and infrastructure projects,” said Bill Peduto. “I’m excited to support the firm as it expands its impact, helping clients deliver projects that strengthen communities and create lasting regional value.”

This role builds on a long-standing relationship between AE Works CEO Michael Cherock and Peduto, dating back to early collaboration on the Sustainable Pittsburgh Lighting Code in 2011, a pioneering effort focused on energy efficiency and sustainable infrastructure outcomes.

Peduto’s work will be conducted on a part-time basis, and he will continue serving as President of Sabean Innovation, Inc., the transatlantic consulting firm he founded, focused on advisory work with NGOs, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations. Peduto most recently served as a Distinguished Executive in Residency at Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy; that appointment concluded in June.

AE Works is a nationally recognized building design and consulting firm, ranking on the Architectural Record Top 300 and earning multiple appearances on the Inc. 5000 list of America’s fastest-growing private companies. The firm delivers integrated architecture, engineering, and consulting services for government, healthcare, commercial, and higher education clients nationwide while maintaining deep roots in Pittsburgh and the surrounding region.
