AIA Annual Business Meeting Update

Membership Growth: AIA membership continues to grow, pacing ahead of last year despite challenging economic conditions. The institute is seeing increased participation from women and underrepresented groups.

Strong Financial Health: AIA received a clean audit for the fiscal year and achieved a significant milestone—balancing the 2025 operating budget without withdrawing from the 1735 Investment Fund for the first time since its establishment. The headquarters renovation project is fully funded and will be ready for occupancy by end of June.

Important Governance Changes Approved

Fellowship Qualifications: Members who pass away during the Fellowship jury process can now posthumously receive the honor (99.31% approval).

Meeting Representation: New quorum requirements ensure broader geographic diversity in institute voting (100% approval).

Board Continuity: Clear procedures established for filling vacant Director-At-Large positions (97.9% approval).

Major Policy Development

AI Policy Resolution: With overwhelming support (99% approval), AIA will develop comprehensive artificial intelligence policies including:

  • Formal AI usage guidelines
  • Educational platform for AI adoption
  • Ethical framework integration into the Code of Ethics
  • AI components in the next 5-year strategic plan

Progress on 2024 Initiatives

  • Health & Wellbeing: Formal review of the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct underway
  • Equity Statement: Expansion to include additional underrepresented groups in 2026-2030 Strategic Plan
  • Governance Task Force: Launched in March to improve transparency and communication across volunteer groups

AIA National Officer Election Results

AIA PA’s own, former Board President, and inspiring leader Jeffrey Pastva, FAIA, CPHC ran a hard fought race for the AIA National At-Large Director position. At the annual meeting, however, three new leaders were elected to The American Institute of Architects’ (AIA) Board of Directors, to serve terms beginning on December 5, 2025.

AIA delegates elected:
•    Yiselle Santos Rivera, AIA, 2026 President-elect/2027 President;
•    Jason Takeuchi, AIA, as 2026 – 2028 At-Large Director;
•    Lisa L. Kennedy, FAIA, as 2026–2027 Treasurer.
