By Jamie L. Davis, PE, LEED AP – Principal Ryan Biggs Clark Davis This presentation explores the possibilities of pushing masonry to a delegated design workflow, similar to cold-formed
and precast. For years the masonry industry has been plagued by lack of education and experience in the proper design of masonry systems. Other industries, such as cold-formed framing, deal with the same issues, however, they have adopted a delegated design workflow where the bulk of the in-depth design is performed during construction phase by designers that are highly experienced. This presentation will explore how this workflow could be used for masonry and initiatives that are underway to promote this paradigm shift in the industry.
Who should attend: Engineers, Architects, Building Code Officials, General Contractors, Masons, Masonry Instructors, Members
Length: One hourCredit Hours: AIA CES HSW, Engineer self-reporting, ICC, and MCAA Mason Certification credits provided as appropriate. Certificates will be supplied via email after completion of the course.

PRESENTER: Jamie Davis, P.E., LEED AP | Principal ~ Ryan Biggs | Clark Davis Engineering & Surveying, D.P.C.
Program Description:
This presentation explores the possibilities of pushing masonry to a delegated design workflow, similar to cold-formed and precast.
For years the masonry industry has been plagued by lack of education and experience in the proper design of masonry systems.
Other industries, such as cold-formed framing, deal with the same issues, however, they have adopted a delegated design workflow
where the bulk of the in-depth design is performed during construction phase by designers that are highly experienced. This
presentation will explore how this workflow could be used for masonry and initiatives that are underway to promote this paradigm
shift in the industry.
Learning Objectives:
1. Describe how delegated design workflows are used for other construction materials.
2. Discuss how a similar delegated design workflow could be used for masonry.
3. Discuss current initiatives to promote delegated design and case studies.
4. Become familiar with new innovations in masonry design and construction.
