This course discusses the teamwork and shared knowledge required by engineers, architects, and manufacturers, specifically in canopy and sunshade projects. The discussion emphasizes teamwork and communication. Ramez Sayed, PE breaks down the different phases of the engineering process in canopy work and the course illustrates those key points. Important design ideas include making correct design choices and maintaining building harmony in a way that will be structurally sound. Including the correct choices in the project ensures not only beauty, but sustainability as well.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify additional safety factors that may determine changes in the project, such as rooftop discharge, falling debris, and snow/ice considerations.
  2. . Understand how teamwork and communication between engineers, architects, and manufacturers ensures all structural and safety requirements are met.
  3. Recognize the aspects of design that engineers look for to promote the overall structural integrity of the project and its components, and how architects can anticipate those needs.
  4. Discuss the load and code requirements and how engineers determine values.
  5. List design considerations to maintain building harmony, structural integrity, and sustainability.
