This course will provide suitable waterfront design approaches to encourage sustainable development, clean up contaminated waterways and waterfront properties, enhance ecology and wildlife habitats at the shoreline, improve residency during natural disasters, and provide safe public access to our waterways for future generations to enjoy

Learning objectives:

  1. Learn the development planning and regulatory permitting process for waterfront properties and the role of the waterfront engineer within the design team.
  2. Identify suitable approaches for shoreline protection, waterfront structures, and enhancement that protect public health and the environment.
  3. Select waterfront design approaches that help clean up our waterways and waterfront properties, enhance wildlife habitats, provide safe public access to the shoreline, and improve resiliency during natural disasters.
  4. Learn about the Waterfront Edge Design Guidelines (WEDG) and calculate WEDG certification credits for a sample sustainable waterfront development project.
