

Mary McClenaghan, AIA, NCARB, Leads First Meeting as President of PA State Architects Licensure Board
On Thursday, January 9th, Mary McClenaghan, AIA, NCARB, presided over her inaugural meeting as President of the Pennsylvania State Architects Licensure Board.
AIA Pennsylvania’s Director of Legislative Affairs, Amal Mahrouki, attended the meeting and provided an update to the board. Amal highlighted that while Act 144 has been signed into law, the Continuing Education requirements will not take effect with the June 2025 license renewals. The timeline for implementation remains undetermined as the regulatory process is just beginning.
Important Deadline: Transition to 2021 ICC Building Codes
July 12, 2025, marks the final day to design under the 2018 ICC Building Codes. Starting July 13, 2025, Pennsylvania adopts the 2021 ICC Building Codes.
To ensure your projects align with the 2018 codes, make sure all contract documents are finalized and signed before the deadline. All permit applications must then be submitted within 6-months of the effective date, January 12, 2026, or the period specified by the municipality, whichever is less.

Amyra brings eight years of experience in communications and membership services to her new role. Throughout her career, she has successfully led initiatives including rebranding and refresh efforts, website redesigns, marketing and sales strategies, and delivering top-tier member services—all of which align closely with the mission and goals of AIA PA.
