GBBN

Mel Ngami is an Associate and project architect at GBBN architects. Her focus is on community development and higher education. She has spent the past 4 years working to enrich the pipeline of minority architects within the city of Pittsburgh as Co-Lead to team build within NOMA PGH (National Organization of Minorities Pittsburgh chapter). She has also worked to influence students as a studio instructor at both the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University, and as a speaker within local elementary schools.

Mel received her Bachelor of Architecture with a minor in Civil Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She also attended the AIA Leadership institute and the UDREAM Program previously hosted by Carnegie Mellon University. In 2022 Mel received the AIA PA Associate Award, for bringing positive change to her community.

Creating spaces that provide room for people to explore their identity and history, without the baggage of conformity, is a goal of hers. Not only within the material of the built environment but also the immaterial of the social spaces people must engage in their day to day.
